“If somebody offers you an amazing opportunity but you are not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later!”
In the year 2006. After completing my B.E. degree, I ventured to Chennai with aspirations of breaking into the IT industry, despite a one-year gap after my studies. Most of my friends already had jobs, either in IT or BPOs. I too may have joined BPO but I was determined to pursue a technical role.
My breakthrough came when my senior recommended me for a .NET trainer position at Pollux Technologies in T. Nagar, Chennai. At the time, I had no knowledge of .NET, but I didn't let that stop me. I took on the job and dedicated myself to an intense self-learning routine. Every night, I would study .NET for hours and then teach my students what I had just learned the previous night.
This hard work paid off. Within six months, I had not only mastered .NET but also developed strong teaching skills. My dedication caught the eye of a PL shipping company in Parry's, Chennai, where I was offered a Programmer Analyst position. Although I was a fresher, my experience as a trainer equipped me with leadership skills and a deep understanding of .NET, allowing me to guide other freshers who joined the company with me.
This foundational experience as a trainer proved invaluable throughout my career. It taught me the importance of perseverance, continuous learning, and sharing knowledge with others. Looking back, I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have started my career in this way.
"You don't choose art, it chooses you"
In 2011, I was working at Mobius and I did not know what is freelancing. My perspective changed during our anniversary conference when the CEO shared an inspiring story about how the company started in a small 1-BHK apartment in T. Nagar with just two employees. Before founding the company, they had been freelancers. This story sparked something within me.
That very night, I created an account on Elance.com, driven by a newfound sense of possibility. For two months, I diligently submitted proposals daily, hoping to land my first gig. My perseverance paid off when I secured a part-time job worth $50. Although it took me three weeks to complete, the sense of accomplishment and the positive client review I received were incredibly rewarding. The payment, though modest, confirmed that I had found my passion.
Balancing my 9-to-5 job with freelancing became an adventurous journey. The freedom to work consistently without external pressures or commitments was liberating.
Over the next decade, my freelancing income steadily increased. By dedicating 10 to 15 hours per week, I was soon earning 40 to 50k. This success gave me the confidence to transition from part-time to full-time freelancing.
"Life begins where fear ends"
Taking the step to start my own business at 37 years old with numerous family commitments was undeniably a significant risk. When I started this business, I had a safety net of savings to sustain me for the next year, my mindset was that we could give it a solid try for a year and return to a 9-5 job if it didn't work out.
As a first-generation entrepreneur, I took this calculated risk to explore opportunities without discussing with anyone. I believe it's my responsibility to create a better environment for my next generation. If I hesitate from taking risks and remain in my comfort zone, my children may encounter the same challenges of relying solely on a job for survival.
Today, i feel very proud of myself for making such a bold decision.
"Great things in business are never done by one person; they're done by a team of people"
In the initial stages of business, its very challenging to balance the team building and daily deliverables with limited finances. Having an excellent partnership with like-minded individuals such as Muthu, Elan, Revanth and Banu are truly fortunate.
Finding the right business partners who complement your weaknesses and share your long-term vision is crucial for the success of any business.
We've been focusing on expanding our team and achieving financial stability. Personally, my goal is to transition this business into autopilot mode within the next two years by defining and refining our processes. This will enable me to relax and enjoy financial independence in my 40s.
“Don't focus on building a business; focus on building the people. When you invest in the people, they will, in turn, build the business."
Year 2023 marked the successful completion of our 1st anniversary, which gives us the positive energy needed to drive our business forward. We have expanded our operations to Trichy, marking a small yet significant milestone towards our broader vision.
"Our vision is to create equal opportunities for all, by providing opportunities in second-tier cities, where talent is abundant. This approach is especially beneficial for individuals who are unable to move to top-tier cities to start their careers, allowing them to succeed without leaving their hometowns"
This was inspired by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam's “PURA (Providing Urban Amenities to Rural Areas)” Scheme. As Dr. Kalam wisely said, "PURA aims to bridge the gap between rural and urban communities, ensuring equal access to opportunities and resources”.
With this vision in mind, we have dedicated our efforts to developing both individuals and refining our operational processes. We are expanding geographically while strengthening our core values.
